Master Writing, SPaG and Literary Devices
Watch – Practise – Repeat
Short, bite-sized lessons – transform writing from ‘bad’ to ‘good’, with every SPaG choice and literary device explained
Once a month, I run a live Zoom Writing Clinic where I critique one or two of your child’s submitted stories on screen. You and your child can ask questions in the community at any time. Your child learns how to edit their own work the way an author would. We take a weak one-page story and turn it into a stronger version, step by step – spelling, punctuation, grammar and the literary devices that matter. This course could give you that one extra mark needed for a grammar school.
Yes. Once a month, I set a one-page story prompt so your child can put everything into practice. They write their story using the methods taught in the course, then submit it for the chance to be selected for a live critique. In the monthly Zoom Writing Clinic, I choose one or two submissions to review on screen, so children can see how to improve their work and why. All submission details and dates are posted in the community.
Both. The method supports any timed story-writing task where a child needs to plan, write and edit under pressure. A checklist tells a child what to add, but a process tells them what to do, in what order and why. We focus on one-page stories (350 – 500 words) and teach a repeatable set of author-style processes to generate ideas, shape a real story and improve the writing. Children learn how and why punctuation and literary devices, such as simile and metaphor, strengthen clarity, conflict and resolution. These are the skills assessed in many selective school English papers and upper KS2 writing assessments.
Some families use this course on its own, and others use it alongside tuition. On its own, it gives your child a clear, repeatable set of author-style processes for planning, writing and editing one-page stories at home. Alongside tuition, it can fit neatly into what your child is already doing, giving them a consistent approach they can practise between lessons. Hence, they walk into sessions more prepared and confident. A checklist tells a child what to add, but a process tells them what to do, in what order and why.
You have access for one year. That includes a monthly live Zoom Writing Clinic. Each month, I set a one-page story prompt; children write their stories using what they have learned and submit them ahead of the session. I select one or two submissions to critique on-screen, showing how to improve the story and writing, and I conclude with a live Q&A for parents and children. You also have access to all video lessons with full transcripts, all quizzes and the Ask Your Questions community, where you and your child can ask for help at any time if something is unclear.
The 11+ is a competition. One mark can make the difference. A checklist tells a child what to add. Our author-led processes show them what to do, in what order and why, so they can write under pressure. This course can stand alone or work alongside tuition. Enrol now and start with the first lesson.
